125 Million Cars Will Use The Internet Of Vehicles Technology. Who Will Dominate The 5g And Dsrc?

The set of micronetworks in May 10 reports that the automotive V2X communication (vehicle and the ability to communicate with anything) has become a hot issue with the development of intelligent and Internet vehicles. At present, the V2X communication standard has two main competitors: Wi-Fi based private short distance communication (DSRC) and cellular based (C-V2X) technology, DSRC based on IEEE 802.11p standard, which defines the enhancement function of IEEE 802.11 standard (the basis of Wi-Fi) to support wireless access in vehicles. The latter can be applied to 4G and the upcoming 5G cellular network.

From the camp, the founding members of the 5G Auto Association (5GAA) include Ericsson, Intel, HUAWEI, NOKIA, Qualcomm, Audi, Ford, BMW and Daimler. Those who support DSRC include general motors, TOYOTA, CISCO, Autotalks, NXP and Renesas. In the U.S. auto market, GM and TOYOTA accounted for 1/3, and the two global market share accounted for about 20%, and TOYOTA has launched more than 100 thousand auto products in Japan with DRSC systems.

With the coming upgrading of communications technology, it will also become a crucial challenge for the car companies that choose different technologies as the development goal.

At present, DRSC has gained the upper hand, but subsequent progress is full of uncertainty. For car companies, software technology is becoming more and more important in the trend of vehicle networking. In addition, the cost is also an important consideration. The 5G network can be covered by upgrading existing base stations and antennas, and if the DSRC is fully deployed, it will require billions of dollars in the government to build infrastructure. In addition, the choice of DSRC means an additional $300 of special equipment for each car, and most new cars have been equipped with cellular modem, and the cost of upgrading to 5G will be much less. With the rapid development of Internet cars and other industries in the category of Internet of things and artificial intelligence, the demand for network speed is becoming higher and higher, which is undoubtedly an important factor to promote the development of 5G network.

But the problem with 5G is that if there is no necessary bandwidth, the development of 5G will be limited. If we want to have enough high power spectrum allocation, we need the government to manage spectrum allocation and make 5G a reality.

CounterpointResearch, a market research agency, says the size of the Internet market is expected to grow 3 times over the next 5 years, with more than 125 million cars using new car networking technologies. Some experts say the 5G mobile phone will be launched next year, and the 5G equipped car will be available as early as 2020. (proofreading / small autumn)
